SECOND WORLD WAR RADAR NATIONAL ADVISORY GROUP (NAG)

To the

AUSTRALIAN WAR MEMORIAL AWM.

RADAR RESTORATION APPEAL

Through the RAAF Association Publication "Wings" "Radar Returns" , other bulletins issued by various State Radar Associations and NAG Newsletter No1, you will be aware of the conservation and restoration program's of Second World War Radar equipment being planned by AWM.

From time to time over the past year or so, AWM officials have welcomed the thought that many of our RAAF Radar Veterans and or their State Organisations have expressed an interest in donating funds to assist these program's and in particular, the re-installation of the LW/AW equipment into Bradbury Aircraft Hall by mid 2000. In fact the Victorian Radar Association have already generously donated funds for this purpose.

During a visit of your NAG executive team to Canberra (Walter Fielder-Gill Convenor, Alex Culvenor(Vic) Deputy Convenor, Ted Dellit (NSW) Secretary, accompanied by Len Brighton (ACT), certain assurances were sought from AWM officials before we undertook to circulate RAAF Veterans seeking their financial support for Radar equipment restoration.

These assurances have now been given in the attached letter from Major General (Rtd) Steve Gower, Director

AWM. They were,in summary:

1.    Assurance that the LW/AW equipment will be included in the Bradbury Aircraft Hall.
2.    That donations to the Memorial are Tax deductible and that these funds would be directed towards the
        radar restoration.

For the information of Air Radar Second World War Veterans, we understand that the restoration programme for the Beaufort Bomber, which will also be displayed in the Bradbury Aircraft Hall, will include Air Surface Vessel (ASV) Radar equipment. If donations received exceed needs for the LW/AW they will be directed to the ASV equipment.

For your information NAG is receiving many requests from AWM team for detailed information, particularly in respect of the LW/AW equipment currently being researched and we are pleased to note that answers have been given with help from "who know" and importantly-remember, (50 + years is a long time ago).

We would ask therefore that if you can see your way clear to make a donation by either cheque or credit card slip, kindly post the return slip direct to :-
